Marine Offshore Experience - Dynamic Positioning Vessel Building

I had a unique experience when an Egyptian offshore company called Subsea Petroleum Services  contacted me to be the head of research and development. The main reason is that the company was building four new advanced offshore marine vessels of type Anchor Handling Tug Supply (AHTS). The vessels names are Subsea88, Subsea89, Subsea204, and Subsea205. Each vessel costs around 20 million dollars. The control system for those vessels is called Dynamic Positioning and it is based on Xilinx FPGA which I have a pretty good experience in using it.
Although the Naval architecture and ship building is field is totally different than academics but I realized that the vessel structure incorporates all engineering specializations (naval, electrical, power, communication, mechanical, production, chemical, ...).
This was my beginning journey in China since the vessels were being built in a shipyard in Guangzhou, China. I attended all the stages of the ship building from cutting the metal plates of the Hull through the launching and taking the sea trial and bollard pull test. Since the supervision required extended stays in China for periods up to three months per period, I took the chance to explore the Chinese society and make friends and visit fairs, exhibitions and factories.
