I worked as the head of research and development of Subsea Petroleum Services Company in Egypt, where I was responsible for the installation and deployment of the FPGA based Dynamic Positioning (DP) System of four offshore DP marine vessels (each costs 20 million USD).The DP systems was from Marine Technology Company. More details can be found at http://www.marine-technologies.com/ The vessels are Subsea88, Subsea89, Subsea204, and Subsea205. The vessels were built in a Shipyard in China and I used to stay for extending periods for the supervision process. I followed the building of each vessel from cutting the metal plates, soldering them to make the hull, installation of the thrusters rudders, main engines, generators, ..., and installation of the various equipment until finally the deployment of the vessel in the water. This was also an extraordinary experience for me because there is a lot of engineering in building a marine vessel. It was an excellent opportunity to go to China and to be exposed to the Chinese culture and social life.
